Building on our commitment to American scientific discovery

Anthropic is deepening its support for American scientific research by committing $150 million over three years to the Genesis Mission, a federal initiative to accelerate scientific and technological discovery through AI. The funding will go toward making Claude available to more than 15 agencies that are part of the mission, including NASA, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation.

We first announced our partnership with the US Department of Energy (DOE) and the Genesis Mission last December. Since then, we have worked with DOE to bring Claude to scientists across the national laboratories. Today, we announced this new commitment as part of the Science: A New Golden Age Summit hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in Washington, DC.

Supporting American scientists

We share the administration’s view, laid out in “Science: A New Golden Age,” that AI can have a profound and positive impact on scientific discovery, and we are glad to back its efforts to support American scientists.

Researchers at federal agencies and national laboratories work on some of the world’s most difficult scientific problems. Through our commitment, we aim to help them use Claude to meaningfully advance their work. Over the next three years, we will:

  • Provide Claude, Claude Code, and API credits to several hundred Genesis Mission research projects;
  • Partner closely with agencies and national laboratories on the administration’s top science priorities, including fusion energy and quantum computing; and
  • Provide training, onboarding, and technical support to scientists on Genesis Mission projects, andhelp agencies new to the Genesis Mission get their first projects running.

Accelerating scientific research

This commitment is part of our broader effort to support scientific research. Earlier this year we launched Claude Science, an AI workbench that integrates the tools and packages researchers most commonly use, and opened 10,000 free and discounted Claude seats for academic scientists. We also expanded our AI for Science program, which gives credits to researchers on high-impact projects, and kicked off a research preview of the Model Hardware Standard, a shared specification for AI agents to safely operate lab instruments. Our commitment to the Genesis Mission is our next step toward helping researchers everywhere.
