October 11 — According to Caixin, following Meta's launch of its personal AI agent Muse, major Chinese tech giants have moved swiftly to follow suit.

On October 9, sources within ByteDance revealed that the company had intensified efforts on developing a personal AI agent product prior to the National Day holiday. The project originated from an initiative launched by ByteDance in April this year, codenamed "Spell." It represents a continuation of the personal agent direction established with Doubao’s mobile assistant in 2025, at which time internal beta testing for personal agent products had already begun within the Doubao team.

After personal agents like Muse gained significant traction overseas, ByteDance accelerated the project's progress. Led by the Doubao mobile assistant team and jointly managed by the Spell project and the Doubao dialogue team, the plan is to integrate the "Spell" project with Doubao products, aiming for a rapid public release.

Tencent, meanwhile, launched a personal AI agent product called LightVela at the end of September. Described as a "cloud-based personal assistant," it can be accessed via WeChat and operates online around the clock to help users handle various daily tasks. However, the product is currently still in the developer experience phase.

On September 8 (local time), Meta introduced its personal AI agent product, Muse, which can perform tasks such as sending emails and booking travel on behalf of users.

Muse has access to user data across various applications—including email, calendar, payments, health, shopping, and smart home devices—provided users explicitly grant permission. Users can choose which apps Muse connects to and retain the right to revoke access permissions at any time.

IT Home noted that unlike traditional Q&A chatbots, Muse’s core positioning is as an "Action-oriented Agent," specializing in taking over mundane tasks across platforms. Mark Zuckerberg views it as a key step toward achieving "personal superintelligence."
