IDC: Nvidia's share of China's data center AI chip market drops to 34%, Huawei rises to 28%

According to IDC data, Nvidia shipped 678,000 AI accelerators in the Chinese market between January and June this year, a 44% year-on-year decline. AI accelerators are used for training and running AI models.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has repeatedly criticized U.S. government export restrictions, stating that these policies have forced Nvidia to cede its $50 billion AI chip market in China to Huawei.

IDC did not specify which products constitute Nvidia’s 34% market share, nor did it clarify whether this figure includes cutting-edge chips such as the B200 and B300.

Among the 11 Chinese chip manufacturers tracked by IDC, nine saw year-on-year increases in shipment volumes. Notably, Huawei’s AI accelerator shipments reached 572,000 units in the first half of the year, up from over 300,000 units in the same period last year, accounting for 28% of the overall market.

Additionally, Alibaba’s chip design division T-Head held a 7% market share, followed closely by Cambricon at 5%. Baidu’s Kunlunxin accounted for 4%, while Hygon Information Technology held 3%.

As of press time, Nvidia had not responded to requests for comment.
