IT Home reported on November 3 that data disclosed by Anthropic on November 2 (local time) shows the company’s Net Revenue Retention (NRR) reached approximately 900% as of September 30, 2026. This indicates that spending from the same cohort of customers grew roughly ninefold between Q3 2025 and Q3 2026. The metric reflects existing enterprise customers continuously expanding their usage of Claude, rather than revenue growth driven solely by new customer acquisition.
During the same period, more than 50% of customers contributing over $100,000 in annual revenue (approximately RMB 666,000 at current exchange rates) were using both the Claude platform and at least one of Anthropic’s first-party applications, such as Claude Code or Cowork. This proportion was around 30% at the end of 2025. Anthropic attributes this shift to its “three-tier architecture” strategy: customers start by calling APIs, then deploy Claude Code for engineers, and subsequently roll out Cowork to all employees, with per-customer value rising as product penetration deepens.
Meanwhile, the number of high-spending Anthropic customers has also grown significantly. As of September 30, there were over 11,900 customers with annual spending of at least $100,000 (Note from IT Home: approximately RMB 666,000 at current exchange rates), compared to about 950 a year earlier. Customers with annual spending of at least $1 million (approximately RMB 6.661 million) exceeded 1,900, while those with annual spending reaching $10 million (approximately RMB 66.609 million) or more numbered around 250. In its prospectus, Anthropic stated that when enterprise customers deploy Claude across broader internal scopes, they recognize greater value, leading to a significant increase in usage.
Claude Code played a key role in this trend. In Q3 2026, among Claude enterprise customers ranked in the top 5% by spending who used Claude Code, average monthly spending was approximately 20 times higher than that of typical enterprise customers not using the tool. Enterprise users without Claude Code had average monthly spending of less than $75 (approximately RMB 499.6). This suggests that first-party applications like coding agents are becoming the primary gateway for enterprise customers to expand their AI spending.
Anthropic filed an S-1 registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in late October. Revenue for the first half of 2026 was $16.286 billion (approximately RMB 108.479 billion), up from $1.163 billion (approximately RMB 7.747 billion) in the same period last year. In the second quarter, the company achieved operating profitability, marking its first profitable quarter on an operating basis.
